Post Op Checkup and Supporting the NICU at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital
Luca's Post Op Checkup and Charitable Giving

Whenever I get a chance I love to visit where my children’s.lives first began, the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Jenny Lind Children’s Hospital which is housed within it.
Inside the walls of this hospital holds memories of anxiety and worry but also hope and joy. My Daughter Lena (2016) spent 11 weeks inside the NICU and our son Luca (2022) was brought into the world under the watchful and caring eye of Dr Latte, my wife’s cardiologist.
Today was Luca’s post operation checkup by our cardiac consultant from GOSH who regularly comes up to Norfolk to check up on his progress. His operation was performed at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in December of last year.
He did an ECG and Echo on Luca and said that the surgeon did a great job in widening his heart chamber and tubes. He was surprised to find out that Luca had made a very good recover after just 4 days of the operation and thought initially that they had done a half bypass but it turns out he had a full bypass.
So Luca our little fighter had exceeded expectations again.
He has arranged for another checkup in a few months time and if nothing major is detected it looks like the big interventions will be a thing of the past. We were obviously overjoyed at this fact.
As always when we go up we try and show our support and appreciation for the work of this hospital. I remember back in 2016 when there was a doctors strike going on the NICU nurses didn’t walk out and dedicated themselves to the wellbeing of the children in their care. Thats why, just before going up I order multiple items from their Wishlist on Amazon and take gifts with me.
I buy gifts for the children on the NICU ward, for the parents and for the staff. This year they received the following items:
For the Babies:
10x comfort rabbit cloths
Rainmakers (sensory toy)
Crayola pens (for babies siblings to draw with)
4x Huggies extra sensitive wipes
1x 3 pack vests
For the Parents

Hand and Footprint Kits
Disposable breast pads for the breastfeeding moms
For the Staff

Here are some pictures of us handing over the gifts and chatting with the staff:
